business activities are segmented as follows:
Managed hosting services
Optalink provides managed hosting services including the traditional
hosting services of domain, email and web
hosting. Server co-location,
the renting of space in Optalink’s internet data centre, is another
popular business offering to clients that require the security and
stability of a full-fledged internet data centre without having
to incur the high cost of establishing and maintaining one including
but not limited to 24-hour air-conditioning, redundant internet
connectivity, security, maintenance and fire-retarding equipment.
Optalink’s recent product offering under managed hosting services
is the provision of disaster recovery hosting
services for clients that require to back-up, maintain and recover
the contents of its on-site servers be it domain, email, web, application
and/or other data in ensuring business continuity. This service
is an extension of Optalink’s server co-location and application
hosting services where the client could maintain its own servers
or rent server space on Optalink’s dedicated servers.
Key features of disaster recovery hosting are as follows:
data protection and backup solutions;
standby infrastructure for recovery
operations;
database log tracking;
data replication; and
hot/warm/cold recovery site capabilities.
Critical to the managed hosting services offering is Optalinks’s
internet data centre. Optalink operates its own purpose built internet
data centre located in Optalink’s headquarters in Wisma TNB, currently
the only privately owned and managed internet data centre in Penang.
Wisma TNB was specifically identified as the location for the internet
data centre as the building is the only one with full redundant
power supply in the event of a power failure. Further, Wisma TNB
is also the main exchange for all electricity power lines in the
state. The building has the advantage of tapping into alternative
power lines in the event the main one for the building is compromised.
Maintenance and support services
Clients may outsource the maintenance and support of its on-site
ICT hardware and software to Optalink as it has the capability to
carry out maintenance and support services by virtue of its experience
in managing its own internet data centre. It is even more compelling
for some of Optalink’s existing clients to engage these services
since the hardware and software could have been installed by Optalink.
Optalink would already have an understanding of the clients’ network
set up and would therefore be better equipped to manage its network.
Systems
integration and consulting services
Often enough, clients would not readily know or have limited knowledge
of the solutions available in meeting its ICT requirements. Optalink
is able to recommend and propose ICT solutions tailoured to the
needs of the client by combining its offerings. For example, by
bringing state of the art technology, skilful personnel & our
high redundancy internet data centre, Optalink successfully provides
a complete off-site disaster recovery solution for a University
for its mission critical servers. The set up enables the University
to replicate their data from the primary site to the backup site.
In the event of hardware failure, power failure or any unforseen
disaster at the primary site, the backup site will takeover and
resume operations in minutes.
